Hey everyone! My name is Genevieve and I'm scheduled for RNYsurgery on Aug. 4 with Dr. Moazzez in Fairfax. I'm still exploring the sight but any tips, tricks, and hints would be appreciated.
I weigh 248 as of today, the heaviest I've ever been. When all is said and done, I hope to weight 140 and be back on the soccer field. :-)

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery and finding the site. You're going to find a wealth of information here, from people who are right where you are, all the way through old-timers like me (I just turned 30 on Sunday, everything makes me feel old.) and beyond.

I see you have Dr. M. as your surgeon. In my heavily biased opinion, he's the best one out there.   I started off in April of 2006 weighing a whopping 399lbs, and today, 27 months later, I go between about 158 and 162. Considering my goal was "200", I'd say I didn't do too badly! I give all credit to him. And the elliptical machine (which I sorely need to get back to).

The only tip I can offer is start exercising now, and start taking your vitamins now too, just like you would be doing after surgery. It won't hurt to get the extra nutrition, and it will help you to get into the routine of doing it.

Good luck to you!

The tough part of WLS is not the first year, it's those that follow.

Hello, Genevieve and welcome.  You will find a wealth of information here on this site and from the members.  I have no personal experience with Dr. Mo, but I hear good things.  I would recommend that you begin your vitamins now and up your protein as well.  This will help with your healing and getting you in the routine of taking vitamins at spaced out intervals.  The best piece of advice I have for you is simply to get ready for the ride of your lifetime.  it is something you will NEVER forget!

Hi Genevieve,
Welcome and congratulations for taking control of your health!
I recommend you learn all you can before surgery. If you change behaviors prior to surgery they really come easier afterward. Stop drinking soda, no straws, d on't drink with your meals. Take a mulitvitamin, drink some protein shakes. Learn to chew, chew, chew. Take little bites.

There are many sites to get protein. www.unjury.com www.bariatriceating.com  www.bumblebeecottage.net  just to name a few.

I started at 246 and now weigh 145 13 months post op. I no longer have high blood pressure, or diabetes, my cholesterol is normal and my joints hurt a lot less.

Glad to have you with us!

I do not recommend using www.bumblebeecottage.net.  Jill is an extremely nice person however I have sent e mails to both her and her daughter regarding their products and have yet to get a response.  This has been months ago.  It seems if you place an order then it is shipped and you receive it but heaven help you if you need a question answered first.  I am all about supporting the local community and the members of this board but not to the extent of "give me your order and money and then forget about me till the next time you need my product".  At this point I am buying elsewhere and will continue to do so.  I have acutually found it cheaper and with cheaper shipping, too.  When and if I ever get a response I may change my feelings but not until then.  To me no response equals BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!
